Services For Patients

Pregnancy is an exciting time but can also be an anxious time particularly if you have a medical condition. Having a medical condition can increase the risk of complications in pregnancy, for example, miscarriage, pre-eclampsia, pre-term delivery or a growth restricted baby. You may be concerned about the medications you are taking and how they may affect your baby. You might be anxious about how the pregnancy might affect your medical problem. I provide a comprehensive service explaining how pregnancy can affect you and your medical problem and, with you, formulate a management plan for your pregnancy and delivery to make sure you remain well and your baby has the best start in life.

Pre-Pregnancy Advice
I can help you prepare for pregnancy. I provide advice and support for women with pre-existing medical conditions, for example, epilepsy or high blood pressure or a history of medical complications in pregnancy such as pre-eclampsia. I can advise on which medications are safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and discuss the how the medical condition can affect pregnancy and how pregnancy may affect the condition. I can also advise on the risk of a pregnancy complication happening in the next pregnancy. I believe careful planning prior to pregnancy leads to a better experience for women and their families and may improve outcome.

Medical Care During Pregnancy
Pregnancy is a time when your body goes through enormous changes. Sometimes you can get symptoms in pregnancy that you haven’t experienced before or mild symptoms may be a lot worse during pregnancy. Examples include, shortness of breath, palpitations or headaches. I can provide a medical opinion and organise any tests that are required to make sure you are fit and healthy in pregnancy. Sometimes medications need to be changed or the dose altered in pregnancy for optimal health of you and your baby. Examples include thyroid problems or high blood pressure. I can provide a management plan for your pregnancy for these types of medical conditions occurring during pregnancy or within 3 months of a pregnancy.
